The Quiet American is husband and wife duo, Aaron and Nicole Keim. In Hood River, Oregon, they live an artistic life making music, building musical instruments, teaching music, writing books, crafting folk art, and raising their 11-year-old son Henry. Their connection to folk tradition is undeniable, even as they find new ways to sing old songs and incorporate music and art into their teaching and performing. Influenced by Depression era string band music and the folk revival, they use ukulele, banjo and accordion to accompany their old-time tunes, harmony singing, and audience sing-alongs.
Aaron and Nicole have self-published several ukulele and banjo instructional books on a wide range of topics. Their books use Nicole's handwritten notation and illustrations to complement Aaron's well-planned scope and sequence of lessons, arrangements, original compositions, and online instructional videos.
Aaron and Nicole have been the artistic directors of Menucha Ukulele Band Camp in Corbett, OR since 2022, and are also the artistic directors of Port Townsend’s Ukulele Festival in Port Townsend, WA.
Ukulenny is an ukulele performer and educator based in Oakland, CA.
A multi-instrumentalist at heart, he taught choir and orchestra for 5 years before becoming a full-time musician. He practiced the uke on his daily commute (the BART train from Oakland to San Francisco), started his YouTube career (75k subscribers!), and eventually grew to worldwide success. Ukulenny has brought his one man band to many ukulele festivals such as the SF Uke Jam Summer Uke-splosion, Michigan's Mighty Uke Day, Reno Ukulele Festival, Grand Northern Ukulele Festival in the UK, and more recently, the inaugural Fort Langley Ukulele Festival near Vancouver, BC. Currently, he continues to preach the ukulele gospel, leading ukulele jams in the Bay Area and serving as a brand ambassador for Kala Brand Music.
You can follow his music and social media accounts through @ukulenny, and he leads virtual classes every Monday night via Patreon: patreon.com/ukulenny
His latest e-book and video series "Moving On Up! A Guide to Getting Better on Ukulele" is now available through ukulelemagazine.com.
Casey MacGill plays rhythm on the ukulele with a super-solid feel, supporting his signature vocals. Whether it’s his authentic vintage swing strum, the groovy shuffle strum, or the sensuous rumba strum, he brings a deep pulse to the music.
MacGill began strumming in earnest during the early 60’s folk music scare, and busked movie lines for Easy Rider and Midnight Cowboy, playing across the street from each other near the UCLA campus in Westwood, California. He appeared on the Tonight Show (Johnny Carson), the infamous Gong Show, and the movie Frances, starring Jessica Lange.
Casey opened the Broadway musical Swing! walking into the spotlight on a darkened stage while vamping on his ukulele to sing the first number. MacGill has made music for swing dancers all over the world. He was on the cover of the Summer 2018 Ukulele Magazine which included an extensive article on his musical history.
Casey recently released a two volume collection of original music called Love Letter, backed by 56 musicians in different ensembles.
